Spent a day in front of my computer for re-write my website. Thanks to my PR class taking in SFSU, we just all realized the power of the social medias is just blown our mind away~ Although we access to it day by day, we may not know they are actually working as a very circulation tool that transfer information, circulate them from person to person, from network to network.
Twitter, the fastest growing social media for this half year yet with the lowest user retention rate. For me, the appear of Twitter is because people love to see others updates, to see what is happening around their friends. But they are so bored to read a page of blog with words and words, so twitter wins!~ Yet, only leaving status update is lacking of interaction and making the layout boring...
Facebook and Blog, still the top 2 leaders of the pool of social media with ranked the highest retention rate with average usage of 3 years or above.
Blog, its a personal expression zone to me. But sometime i doubt why I have to disclose myself to the public~~ :)

Hey Billy, i agree with your take on Twitter's lack of interaction. It is an issue Twitter needs to contend with because if not, it can become an overwhelming force that will cause the platform to fail. This is evident through two things that i am aware of: 1. The low retention rate of around 40% by a recent research done by Nielson Online. 2. The rise and fall in Google searches corresponding with television news coverage (i cant seem to add links within this comment page but this is found in Google Trends graphs of "Twitter").
ReplyDeleteTwitter has to be able to create buzz/word of mouth interest beyond just the tech induced area like the SF Bay Area and expand to wider audiences such as those in the bible territories like Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, North & South Carolina...etc.
Obviously, i hope the best for Twitter as i am a regular user that find the platform's unique take on communication has great potential to be "the next email" like Jack Dorsey had envisioned in our class speaking event. But until certain issues such as the lack of interaction and community feel are acknowledge and rectify (somehow), Twitter may and will fall short the long term goal of being indespensible in our everyday life like email has achieved.
Best of luck to the folks at Twitter. Also a note, there seems to be talk that Google might be interested in buying Twitter. This is great news and shows there are possibly huge untap potential to the platform. All in all, i am sure Dorsey knows something we don't.
